Refund Policy
Last updated: [DD Month YYYY]
Most refund policies exist because you paid for something before you knew whether it was any good.
That's not how Shattak works. You learn first, finish the course, get your certificate, and only then decide what to pay. By the time money changes hands, you already have everything you came for.
Which makes this a short document. Here's how it works.
The short version
- You never pay upfront, so there's nothing to refund before or during a course.
- What you pay after finishing is a voluntary contribution, and voluntary contributions aren't normally refundable.
- We will always refund genuine mistakes: duplicate charges, technical failures, wrong amounts entered by accident, and payments you didn't authorise.
- If money left your account but didn't show up on Shattak, that's not a refund, that's a broken transaction. Tell us and we'll fix it.
- Refunds go back to the original payment method, usually within [7 to 10] working days.
- If we refund you, the course goes back to unpaid. You'll need to close it out again before starting a new one, and that can be ₹0.
- Your certificate is never affected. You earned it by doing the work, not by paying.
1. Why there's nothing to refund upfront
Every course on Shattak is free to enroll in. No card at signup, no deposit, no trial that quietly starts charging.
So if you enroll and change your mind, or start a course and never finish it, or decide halfway that it isn't for you, nothing happens. You paid nothing. There's nothing to reverse. Just walk away.
This is the whole point of the model. You don't need a refund policy protecting you from a bad purchase if you never made the purchase.
2. What your payment actually is
After you complete a course, submit your assignment, and receive your certificate, you're shown the option to pay. You choose the amount. ₹0 is a real answer and always has been.
That payment is a voluntary contribution for something you've already received in full: the course, the mentorship access, the assignment review, and the certificate.
Because the service is fully delivered before you pay, and because you set the price yourself, these contributions are generally non-refundable.
That isn't us being difficult. It's the logical shape of the model. You saw exactly what you were paying for, you'd already got it, and you picked the number.
3. When we will refund you
We'll always fix an actual mistake. Specifically:
Duplicate payments
Charged twice for the same course because a button was pressed twice or a page reloaded. We refund the extra one, no questions.
Technical failures
You paid, the money left your account, but Shattak didn't record it, or your course didn't close out, or something else broke on our side.
Strictly this is a failed transaction rather than a refund, but the outcome is the same: you get your money back or we correct the record, whichever you'd prefer.
Wrong amount entered by accident
You meant ₹100 and typed ₹1,000. You added a zero. Your keyboard did something unhelpful.
Tell us within [7] days and we'll refund the difference or the whole thing. We're not going to keep money you clearly didn't mean to send.
Unauthorised transactions
Someone used your card or account without permission. Report it to us and to your bank immediately. We'll refund and investigate.
Payments during a service failure
If you paid and then found your certificate was never issued, your assignment was never reviewed, or something we promised simply didn't happen, we'll refund in full.
Payments made by a child
If you're a parent or guardian and you discover a payment made from your card by someone under 18 without your permission, we refund it. No questions, no window.
4. When we won't
To be straight with you rather than vague:
- You finished the course and later decided it wasn't worth what you paid. You had the whole thing in front of you before you chose the number. Outside the [7] day mistake window above, that one's settled.
- You didn't get the job, rank, or result you hoped for. We're upfront in our Terms that we don't guarantee outcomes. We deliver the course, the mentorship access, and the certificate. What happens after depends on a lot of things we don't control.
- You lost access because you broke the rules. Sharing access keys, sharing course material, abusing people in a community group, or submitting work that isn't yours. If your account is closed for a breach, contributions already made aren't returned.
- Your certificate was revoked for plagiarism. Same reasoning.
- Too much time has passed. Beyond [30] days, our payment gateway often can't reverse a transaction even when we'd like it to.
- You want to reverse a ₹0 payment. We mention this only because someone will ask.
The exception to all of the above
If something happened that genuinely wasn't fair to you and it doesn't fit anywhere on this page, write to us anyway.
We're a small team running an unusual model, and we haven't thought of every situation. We'd rather read your actual case than hide behind a policy line. We can't promise yes, but you'll get a real answer from a person instead of a template.
5. Money debited but not showing up
This happens occasionally with UPI and net banking, and it usually isn't a refund situation at all.
If money left your account but Shattak shows the course as unpaid:
- Wait [24] hours. Gateway confirmations sometimes lag.
- If it still hasn't appeared, email [support@shattak.com] with your registered email, the course name, the amount, the date, and the transaction reference from your bank or UPI app.
- We'll check with the payment gateway and either apply the payment correctly or arrange the reversal.
Most of these resolve within [5] working days. Occasionally the bank takes longer, and that part is out of our hands.
Please don't pay again while you wait. That turns a temporary problem into a real duplicate charge.
6. How to ask for a refund
Email [refunds@shattak.com] with:
- the email address on your Shattak account
- the course name
- the amount and date
- the transaction or order reference
- what went wrong, in a sentence or two
Screenshots help, especially for duplicate charges. You don't need to write a formal letter or justify yourself at length. Tell us what happened.
What happens next:
- We acknowledge within [48] hours.
- We review and respond with a decision within [7] working days.
- If approved, the refund is processed within [7 to 10] working days after that.
- The money returns to the original payment method. We can't send it somewhere else, because that's a fraud risk for both of us.
- Your bank may take a few extra days to display it.
Any gateway fees deducted on the original transaction may not be recoverable. Where that applies we'll tell you the exact amount before processing.
If your bank converted currency at the time of payment, exchange rate differences between then and now are set by your bank, not by us, and we can't top up the gap.
7. What a refund does to your account
This part is specific to how Shattak works, so it's worth spelling out.
Our Terms say that to enroll in a new course, you first close out your previous one with a payment. That payment can be ₹0.
If we refund a contribution, the course it related to goes back to unpaid. Before you start something new, you'll need to close it out again. And again, that can be ₹0.
So a refund never locks you out of learning. It just resets the checkout step.
Your certificate is not affected. You earned it by completing the work, not by paying. A refund doesn't take it away.
Your standing is not affected either. Nobody gets flagged or treated differently for asking. Mentors can't see it. Nobody in your community group can see it.
8. Cancelling your enrollment
There's no process and you don't need our permission.
Stop. Leave the WhatsApp group if you want to. Nothing is charged, nothing is owed, and no cancellation email is required.
If you'd like a course cleared off your dashboard entirely, email us and we'll remove it.
9. Paid mentorship and other services
Most of what we offer runs on the pay what you want model. Some things may not, including one on one mentorship sessions, live cohort programmes, or tools we build later.
Where something is paid for upfront, its own terms will be shown at the point of purchase and will say clearly what the cancellation and refund window is. Those terms take priority over this page for that specific purchase.
As a general starting point for booked one on one sessions:
- Cancel [24] hours or more before the session: full refund or free reschedule
- Cancel less than [24] hours before: no refund, though we'll usually try to reschedule once
- Mentor cancels or doesn't show: full refund or reschedule, your choice
- You don't show up: no refund
For live cohorts and paid group programmes:
- Full refund if you cancel before the first session
- Pro-rata refund if we cancel the cohort partway through
- No refund once you've attended more than [25]% of the sessions, unless we were the ones who cancelled
If we ever cancel a paid service outright, everyone affected is refunded in full without having to ask.
10. Chargebacks
If something's gone wrong, please email us before raising a chargeback with your bank.
We'd rather just fix it. Chargebacks take weeks, cost both sides money, and in most cases we'd have refunded you in a day if you'd asked.
If you do raise one without contacting us, we may suspend your account while the dispute runs. Where a chargeback is raised in bad faith on a course that was completed and certified, we may close the account permanently.
11. Changes to this policy
We'll update this page as Shattak grows and adds paid services. The date at the top shows when it last changed.
Changes don't apply retroactively. Whatever policy was live when you paid is the one that governs your payment.
12. Contact
Refunds: [refunds@shattak.com] General support: [support@shattak.com] Grievance Officer: [NAME], [grievance@shattak.com] Address: [REGISTERED ADDRESS]
If we've handled a refund badly and you're not satisfied with our response, write to the grievance address above and it'll be looked at again by someone else.
If we still haven't resolved it within [30] days, you can escalate to the relevant consumer forum under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019. We'd much rather you never needed to.
You pay after you learn, and only what you think it was worth. If money moved by mistake, tell us and we'll send it back.
